Amit V. Masurkar "The CICAE Art Cinema Award jury for the Forum programme at the 67th Berlinale, out of as many as 43 films in competition, decided to award wonderful Indian film Newton directed by Amit V Masurkar. This exceptional film, within the rich and varied Forum selection, deals with the universal issue of democracy, and the fight for it, during elections in India. Its multilayered portrayal of Indian culture, its dark humor and ironic approach, as well as its positive use of typical cliches within Indian society gives Newton a unique form and style which will delight audiences in arthouse cinemas all over the world."

Sacha Polak "This film is the portrait of a woman in grief but the bold writing makes the story new. Director Sasha Polak manages to examine the commonplace and breathe a real emotional impact into the path of a young woman. Her sad story is told in an unexpected way, in reverse, and the film dares to use the language of cinema, making it more about what we see and less about what is said. We discover in this film a wonderful new actress, Wende Snijders, who is a singer and performance artist making her film debut. Her willingness to take on the raw emotional material in a natural, honest way is at the core of the success of the film."

Simon Groß, Nana Ekvtimishvili This year's CICAE Forum jury choose a film that's very strong on both a cinematic and political level. It tells a universal and personal story that plays to a background full of violence. The production design is marvellous and the two young main actresses pulled us in their story and did not let us go, untill this very moment.

Our Homeland Kazoku no kuni
Yong-hi Yang The film's many deeply affecting scenes and strong cast serve to successfully explore a particular chapter in contemporary North Korean history. Thanks to the nuanced characters, the viewer comes to understand the devastating effects that politics and ideology can have on the individual. The jury therefore highly recommends this movie to the CICAE cinemas.
