The story is taken from a novel first published in 1947: 'On est toujours trop bon avec les femmes', an Irish novel by Sally Mara, translated by Michel Presle. It was reprinted in 1962 in 'Les Oeuvres completes de Sally Mara', recognising the true author Raymond Queneau. It was adapted for the screen in 1971 as 'On est toujours trop bon avec les femmes', directed by Michel Boisrond. This Spanish version relocates the original occupation of a post office on Sackville Street in Dublin during the 1916 Easter Rising by seven Republican Nationalists to Spain in 1940, where it is carried out by retreating Republican Maquis.
