The actor has loved boxing since childhood. He started training at the age of 9 and has undergone serious training, even winning the Irish Youth Championship. However, at the age of 17 Neeson had to give up boxing, because he got a serious head injury during a fight. Liam was awarded the Order of the British Empire for his achievements in film. He did not pick up the award for about 2 years because he was afraid of meeting the Queen. Neeson wanted to star in 'Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace' so badly, he decided to accept the part, even without having read the script. The actor is a fan of motorcycles, and has been in many accidents. Once he hit a deer, and earned himself several fractures. Another time, the accident was so bad the actor ended up on the verge of life and death, so after surviving it Liam declared that he would never take the wheel again. While being a fan of high speed, Neeson is, surprisingly, terribly afraid of heights and has to resort to the help of stunt actors to shoot some particularly extreme action scenes.
