Paul Bettany

As a child, Paul experienced a personal tragedy. He had a younger brother who fell off a roof and died. Grief destroyed the family. Paul's parents began to drift apart, and soon separated. The role of the poet in 'The Knight's Tale' was created specifically for Paul. The director said he would not shoot the movie if Paul refused to take part in the project – despite the pressure from the studio, whose representatives believed that the actor was not popular enough for the role. While working on 'The Knight's Tale', Bettany developed a throat problem. He developed laryngitis as he almost snapped his voice. On the set of 'Da Vinci Code', Paul had to wear a wig. At first they tried to bleach his own hair, but as a result his head was covered with noticeable wounds.
