Biography of Guy Ritchie

Guy Ritchie, a director, producer, and screenwriter was born on the 10th of September 1968 in Hertfordshire, UK. He was never good at studies having attended at least 10 schools in his educational years including a special school for dyslexics named Stanbridge Earls School. At the age of 15, he dropped out of school and started working at entry-level jobs in the entertainment industry. In 1995, Ritchie got a job as a runner which led to his film career.

Ritchie’s progression in the entertainment industry was quick and by the end of 1995, he was directing music promos and commercials. Also, in 1995, he directed a 20-minute short film named The Hard Case (1995) which was followed by his directorial debut with the crime comedy Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998). Ritchie was put on the film industry map with his second directorial film, Snatch (2000), which gained critical praise, and more importantly, it was commercial success. Being one of the rising filmmakers of that time, Ritchie is credited with helping introduce many prominent actors to the film industry including Jason Statham, Jason Flemyng, and Vinnie Jones. On the other hand, Ritchie’s most prominent directed movie was Sherlock Holmes (2009) with Robert Downey Jr. in the lead role as Sherlock and Dr. Watson as his accomplice played by Jude Law. It was a blockbuster having grossed more than $520 million worldwide and following its success, in 2011, Ritchie directed its sequel Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (2011), which was nominated for Academic Award in two categories of Best Original Score and Best Art Direction.

He also directed movies RocknRolla (2008),The Man From U.N.C.L.E. (2015), King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (2017), the live-action adaptation of Disney's Aladdin (2019), and The Gentlemen (2020).

His last directed movie was the thriller Wrath of Man (2021), which was the remake of Cash Truck (2004), and is currently busy working on his next film, an untitled war drama with Jake Gyllenhaal in the lead role.

In May 2000, police arrested Ritchie for allegedly assaulting a man outside the home he shared with Madonna, a well-known pop superstar. He went on to marry the American singer-songwriter on 22nd December 2000 in Scotland. He has worked on several film and video projects with his wife including What It Feels Like for a Girl, which was controversial because of the depiction of violence and abuse shown in the video. Ritchie remained married to Madonna for around 8 years and had two sons named Rocco (born in 2000) and an adopted son David who was born in 2005. They decided to part ways in 2008 and their divorce got finalized in December. However, in 2011, his girlfriend, model Jacqui Ainsley, whom he was dating for around a year, bore him a son named Rafael. They went on to have two more sons in 2012 and 2014 before getting married on 30th July 2015.
