The actor states that he is Welsh by nationality, and his ancestors are of Celtic descent. Even his name is formed from the Welsh "Taran" (meaning "thunder"). According to Edgerton, his mother made a spelling mistake while getting his papers done, so everyone started calling him Taron. The actor's parents divorced when the boy was only a few years old. In the 'Rocketman' Edgerton played the role of the legendary Elton John. The singer himself picked Taron specifically to portray him on screen after hearing Edgerton singing one of his songs: Elton simply realized that no one else would be able to perform better. During the filming the actor sang on his own; it's all the dancing that he actually had a problem with. The 'Rocketman' wasn't the first movie Edgerton had to sing in; he previously recorded some songs in one of the voice roles in Disney's animated 'Sing'.
