1944. The fighter regiment of commander Aleksandr Romanov is being transferred to Anapa to strengthen air units in the upcoming offensive on Crimea. As a result of the air battle, Aleksandr manages to capture a valuable trophy - a German fighter of a new modification. The enemy plane is sent to one of the design bureaus near Moscow, where work is underway on the new Soviet fighter Yak-9U. By a fateful coincidence, Romanov himself soon ends up in the design bureau. Working on a new machine in a team of engineers and test pilots, Romanov lives with the dream of returning to the skies. Here he meets true love, regains faith in himself and the opportunity to be at the front again, in his regiment.
