The events of the Ukrainian mini-series "The Long Road to Happiness" revolve around a girl named Nina, who was forced to give up her child. Unwanted daughter Varya was born as a result of rape, so the young mother gave her up for adoption. The adoptive parents love the girl and raise her as their own, but the biological mother suffers because of her decision. Secretly, she keeps an eye on Varya, dreaming of one day reclaiming her. When Nina's fiancé Oleg appears, it becomes increasingly difficult to hide this secret.
