The story revolves around an American man named Gabe. He has buried his first wife and married a woman from Great Britain. Now he needs to get acquainted with her family. The main character arrives at a semi-ruined gothic mansion located in the English countryside and meets her relatives. Warm relations are established between them. Soon Gabe learns why they are so kind and welcoming to him.
