The protagonist of the melodramatic series "Polar Waltz" is Alena Belkova, a talented surgeon from the capital and simply a beautiful woman. When her "promising" fiancé cheats on her, her father turns away from her, and her career crumbles, Alena becomes disillusioned with her usual life and decides to leave her past behind. She moves to a small hometown in the Far North of Russia, beyond the Arctic Circle, and takes a job as a regular doctor at the local hospital.
