The Unexpected Village Diary revolves around Han Ji Yul, a veterinarian from Seoul who travels to a village to visit his grandfather. Upon arrival, he discovers that his grandfather has gone on a six-month vacation to Europe. The news is delivered to the main character by a local law enforcement officer named Ahn Joo Young. According to a note left by his grandfather, Han Ji Yul is tasked with managing the animal clinic for the duration of his absence. Han Ji Yul is determined not to disobey his grandfather's wishes.
