The Thief-in-Law known as Baron, along with his partner, robs the apartment of a banker closely connected to criminal structures and an assistant to a deputy. Among the numerous antiques, the accomplices find a painting by Rembrandt called "Aegina." Baron realizes that it is a stolen original from the Hermitage Museum, but soon finds himself in prison. He asks Andrey Seregin, a journalist from the crime department, to return the cultural heritage object to the museum. The reporter takes on the investigation alone, while the local mafia begins to hunt him down.
