The series is based on the love novel by Leopoldo Alas. The action takes place in the Spanish town of Veluste in the late nineteenth century. At the center of the events is the wife of an elderly official who desperately seeks love in the arms of other suitors. Ana Osorres married a distinguished man much older than herself - Victor Quintanar. After this marriage, the girl entered conservative society and accepted its laws. But beyond its boundaries, Ana continues to follow her own rules...
