The series is based on the eponymous work by Nate and Megan Trinrud and Maria Nguyen. The story revolves around a teenage girl named Maddie Nirs, who finds herself stuck in the afterlife. She sets out to investigate her mysterious death along with other school students who also find themselves in a suspended state. Maddie delves into the investigation of crimes while simultaneously trying to adapt to high school in the afterlife. But the closer she gets to uncovering the truth, the more secrets she discovers.
