The TV series "When Calls the Heart" is an adaptation of Janet Oke's historical bestseller about life in remote Canadian provinces. School teacher Elizabeth Thatcher moves from the capital to a small coal mining town, where she will live and work for the next few years. The heroine meets her new neighbors and is amazed at how difficult their lives are. Her new friend, Abigail Stanton, who recently lost her husband in a mine accident, is forced to work in the mines herself to avoid losing her home.
