The protagonist of the war series "Samogon" is the experienced Soviet sniper Nikolai Slepkov. He arrives at the front in 1941, keeping his past to himself and working only alone. Soldiers like him are called "Samogon" because they hunt down their prey and "take them out" with a single precise shot. On his very first mission, Slepkov proves himself to be a true hero. Over the course of a year, he sustains six injuries but survives and single-handedly kills 599 fascists. To capture Slepkov's six hundredth shot, a military correspondent from Moscow arrives at the front.
