The series "Nochnoj" is a gripping detective story based on the real-life story of the "Angarsk maniac". The main character is Police Major Zherekhov from the city of Murom. His marriage is on the rocks: his wife wants to move to the capital, but they are held together by their ten-year-old daughter. Zherekhov cheats on his wife with his colleague, investigator Ivolgina. She is obsessed with a mysterious case of five missing girls. She tries to connect these investigations into one and prove that a maniac has appeared in the city, but no one believes her.
