The domestic detective drama is based on real events. In 1982, the famous "Eliseevsky" store in St. Petersburg is managed by entrepreneur Berkutov. When the General Secretary of the USSR, Leonid Brezhnev, dies, the country finds itself in a precarious position. Power is taken over by Yuri Andropov, former head of the KGB. He wants to show the entire Union that he can be a strong ruler, so he initiates a high-profile case. The General Secretary assigns investigator Skachko to gather compromising material on Berkutov.
