The action takes place in 1911. The focus is on a girl who received an education at the Institute for Noble Maidens. Her name is Alexandra Meshcherskaya. Becoming a young woman, she returns to the small town where she was born, to her family. The well-being of her relatives is connected to her uncle, who is the owner of a firearms factory. Sasha's parents dream of her marrying well, but Alexandra herself has other plans for the future.
