Nina is an unremarkable music teacher leading a quiet life. Everything changes in an instant when her 18-year-old son Kirill is accused of setting fire to a car owned by the powerful businessman Samoilov. To help Nina avoid trouble, Boris, a lawyer who is hopelessly in love with her, takes on the case. He discovers that Kirill is innocent and that the car was actually set on fire by a young man who looks exactly like him. This prompts Nina to remember that many years ago she was forced to leave her child, who was born with a serious illness, in an orphanage against her will. Determined to find him and talk to him, Nina sets out on a journey.
