On the eve of her wedding, village nurse Ksyusha Mikhailova learns that her fiancé, Valera Berestnev, has cheated on her. Ksyusha's best friend, Inga, is expecting his child.
Ksyusha plans to leave for the city to study to become a cardio surgeon in order to cure her sick mother.
