In the late 1960s, a runaway bride named Kovi disappears in the waves off the coast of Jamaica, and there are reasons to believe that she drowned or is on the run, accused of murdering her husband. Fifty years later in California, Eleanor Bennett, a 60-year-old widow, dies of cancer, leaving her two estranged children a flash drive containing previously untold stories of her journey from the Caribbean basin to America. These stories, told by Eleanor, shock her children and cast doubt on everything they thought they knew about their family's origins.
