1904. The Russo-Japanese War. The army, along with the hospital convoy, is forced to retreat. Senior physician Sergey Karenin takes charge of the hospital and stays in a deserted Chinese village. Here, he performs surgery on a wounded colonel. Upon hearing the name "Karenin," the patient flinches in pain: the will of fate is truly inevitable. The wounded man is named Alexei Kirillovich Vronsky.
Late at night, Karenin visits Vronsky and asks him to reveal the secrets of the past. Sergey wants to finally know what happened to his mother, Anna Karenina, thirty years ago.
